Death Penalty
Coughlin, William J
At the request of his friend Mickey Monk, Charley Sloan agrees to take on the lawsuit of a man who has become a quadriplegic due to a vehicle malfunction.
The outcome of the lawsuit hinges on the vote of one of the judges, Frank Palmer, who was once Charley's mentor early in his career and later helped him when he nearly lost his license because of his drinking problems.
When he is approached by a lawyer who, claiming to speak for Palmer, offers him his vote in exchange for money, Charley is faced with a difficult decision: Corrupting himself is risk-free and means everyone is satisfied. But he is lost forever. Saving his integrity means denouncing the man who helped him when he needed it and, perhaps, losing a lawsuit on the outcome of which both his client's life and that of his friend depend.
